This article provides a comprehensive overview of various approaches to managing inflammation in the heart and surrounding tissues, specifically targeting myocarditis and pericarditis. It highlights both traditional remedies and modern treatments, offering insights into how these can aid in reducing inflammation and improving heart health. We will explore a range of options from herbal and nutritional supplements to pharmaceutical interventions and emerging therapies.

The focus is on quickly addressing inflammation to prevent long-term damage, as timely intervention is crucial to avoiding irreversible scarring of the heart tissue. This guide includes information from advanced nutrition, traditional remedies, and recent scientific findings, giving you a broad perspective on potential treatments.

Some basic information from Advanced Nutrition and Health.

Following is a list of substances that can help with symptoms related to inflammation (and other symptoms) in the body, with an emphasis on the upper body.

Black seed oil (Nigella Sativa)

Supplementation of Black Seed Oil may be an effective adjunct therapy to improve pulmonary functions, inflammation, and oxidant-antioxidant imbalance in COPD patients. Read the study, here.

Ivermectin

Anti-inflammatory activity. The role of ivermectin as an anti-inflammatory agent has only recently been understood. This is an integral part of its use as an antihelminthic agent. Ivermectin is now known to play an immunomodulatory role in suppressing human inflammatory responses.

From Dr. Eric Berg’s best remedies for Myocarditis:

  1. Japanese knotwood (Reynoutria japonica)
In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Japanese knotweed is used for clearing heat and toxicity in the body, improving blood quality and qi circulation (4). These combined actions mean that it deeply nourishes and supports systemic health. It is believed to increase longevity and is taken as an anti-aging agent. This is unsurprising considering its broad range of health benefits, such as its cardiovascular tonic and antioxidant properties (4).
Japanese knotweed is packed with valuable nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin C and an important antioxidant and cardio-protective flavonoid called rutin. It also contains important minerals including zinc, potassium, phosphorus, and manganese (8). This nutritive quality of Japanese knotweed makes it particularly nourishing as a food and an excellent tonic for blood health.
  2. Vitamin E - Tocotrienols (a blend without Tocopherols) Palm Tocotrienol and Carotene Complex.
A tocotrienol extract and a carotene complex marketed by PhytoGaia were each shown in a recent animal study to ameliorate symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis in an animal model of the disease.

Pir Pirfenidone (Pirfenidone, sold under the b)rand name Pirespa among others, is a medication used for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. It works by reducing lung fibrosis through downregulation of the production of growth factors and procollagens ...
Nin Nintedanib (Nintedanib, sold under the brand names Ofev and Vargatef, is an oral medication used for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and along with other medications for some types of non-small-cell lung cancer. In March 2020, it was approved ...)
  3. Vitamin D3 - Most potent vitamin for inflammation. Recommended 10,000 IU units twice a day. Vitamin D3 replaces the steroid effect that people are being given by the doctor.
  4. Olive leaf extract - Oleanolic acid comes from the leaf of the olive tree. Anti inflammatory and anti viral.
  5. Cardiotrophin PMG - 1 before bed. It has extract from animal heart tissue. This last one is a recommendation from Dr. Berg that has no backup in studies.

Vitamin E Tocotrienols benefits: Anti-cancer benefits, anti-cholesterol, very powerful antioxidants, 50 times stronger than tocopherols, they create immune improvement, anti-tumor.

Food high with vitamin E: Nuts, seeds, fish, egg yolk, leafy green lettuce and other vegetables.

Nattokinase - is an enzyme that comes from a Japanese food called natto. Natto is made from boiled soybeans that have been fermented with a type of bacteria. Nattokinase may thin the blood and help break up blood clots.

Garlic - research shows that garlic has many different health benefits, including some that can help your heart.

  • Garlic is an excellent source of antioxidants, which can help fight infection and cell damage.
  • Several studies have shown that garlic can prevent cell damage, regulate cholesterol and lower blood pressure.
  • Garlic supplements may also reduce plaque buildup in the arteries.
  • Garlic contains the antimicrobial allicin, which can help fight off pathogens and bacteria. While all members of the onion family have some form of this antimicrobial, garlic has the highest amount.

Molecular Hydrogen - Hydrogen was found to increase the level of antioxidants in vitro studies, animal models, and clinical studies [57]. Furthermore, anti-inflammation and anticell death have also been reported as hydrogen properties [8]. In addition, the previous studies in both animal models and clinical trials demonstrated the potential benefits of hydrogen application in various pathological conditions, including postcardiac arrest syndrome [9] and cardiovascular diseases

Curcumin (Turmeric root) - Very anti-inflammatory and can help a lot after intake of antibiotics to rebuild the gut microbiome. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) different applications are attributed to the ‘rhizome’ and ‘tuber’. Turmeric ‘rhizome’ is said to be a blood and qi with analgesic properties. It is used to treat chest and abdominal pain and distension, jaundice, frozen shoulder, amenorrhea due to blood stasis and postpartum abdominal pain due to stasis. It is also applied to wounds and injuries. The ‘tuber’ has similar properties but is used in hot conditions as it is considered to be more cooling. One particular application is viral hepatitis.

Cayenne pepperBy Barbara O'Neil Cayenne pepper is the best herb for the heart. It thins the blood. A good counter to Aspirin which causes brain bleed, stomach bleeds, and eye bleeds. Cayenne pepper doesn't cause any bleeding, the contrary. It also straightens the arterial walls. It also opens the capillaries that helps blood flow better in the capillaries. 1/4 teaspoon in water 3 times a day.

CBD anti-Inflammatory Benefits:
CBD has strong anti-inflammatory properties, even more than antioxidants, Omega-3s, and vitamin C. It helps reduce inflammation and pain by desensitizing certain receptors, without the side effects of drugs like Ibuprofen. It may also help with heart-related inflammation and lower oxidative stress.

CBD and Stroke Recovery: Animal studies show CBD reduced tissue damage after a heart attack or stroke by up to 66%. These benefits could also extend to humans.

CBD and Blood Pressure: CBD may lower high blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels, making blood flow more easily.

CBD as antioxidant: CBD helps lower harmful molecules (ROS) and protects important antioxidants, like GSH, from damage. Studies show it boosts GSH levels in the heart, brain, and liver. This is important because GSH works with vitamins like A, E, and C to fight oxidative stress. CBD's antioxidant power is even stronger than vitamin C or E.

It has been found that CBD may interfere with the hepatic metabolism of some drugs by inactivating CYP3A and CYP2C [137]. Such interactions should be considered when co-administering CBD with other drugs metabolized by above enzymes.

  1. Drugs Affecting CYP3A: Inhibitors: Medications like ketoconazole (an antifungal), erythromycin (an antibiotic), and grapefruit juice can inhibit CYP3A, potentially increasing the levels of drugs metabolized by this enzyme.

Inducers: Drugs such as rifampin (an antibiotic), carbamazepine (an anticonvulsant), and St. John’s Wort (an herbal supplement) can induce CYP3A, potentially decreasing the levels of drugs metabolized by this enzyme.

  2. Drugs Affecting CYP2C: Inhibitors: Medications like fluconazole (an antifungal), cimetidine (an acid reducer), and some antidepressants can inhibit CYP2C, potentially increasing the levels of drugs metabolized by this enzyme.

Inducers: Drugs such as rifampin (also affects CYP2C) and barbiturates (a class of sedatives) can induce CYP2C, potentially decreasing the levels of drugs metabolized by this enzyme.

These interactions are crucial to consider for ensuring effective and safe use of medications. Read entire study here.

CBG – Recent studies suggest that CBG may help reduce inflammation, and its antioxidant benefits are similar to those of vitamin E.

CBG also shows potential in cancer treatment:

  • Colorectal Cancer: CBG has been found to slow tumor growth and increase cell activity that fights cancer, suggesting it may be helpful for this type of cancer.
  • Glioblastoma: CBG slows down tumor growth, helps reduce cells resistant to treatment, and provides additional benefits like pain relief, reducing nausea, and increasing appetite, making it a possible supportive treatment.

In addition, a CBG-based compound called VCE-003.2 has shown several promising effects:

  • Protection: It helps protect brain cells from damage.
  • Reduction: It reduces swelling in the brain and helps with movement problems.
  • New Cells: It encourages the growth of new brain cells and helps them move to damaged areas.
  • Oral Use: It works well when taken by mouth and helps improve brain cell growth.

Mullein

Mullein has been used traditionally as a remedy for the respiratory tract, including bronchitis. It works as an expectorant, meaning it helps expel mucus. More. Expectorant herbs help loosen bronchial secretions and make elimination of mucus easier.
